Where’s there’s smoke there’s a great cocktail to enjoy!
Nine Banded Whiskey. This one’s at the top of my whiskey list. The straight whiskey and wheated bourbon-whiskey are distilled in Lawrenceburg, IN and then blended and bottled by hand in Austin, Texas. It’s “brought to life” with limestone-filtered spring water from the Texas Hill Country. Nothing wrong with that! Smooth on the palate with hints of vanilla, butterscotch and caramel, Nine Banded Wheated Bourbon Whiskey creates a most delightful Old Fashioned.
As a fan of all things smoked, why not smoke my cocktails? I was first introduced to the concept of smoked cocktails when I lived in Nashville. Smoked foods rule in Texas so why not smoke my cocktails at home?
Adding another layer of flavor complements the flavors of the bourbon whiskey. My smoking box is Crafthouse by Fortessa Cocktail Smoking Box.
For Christmas, my daughter gave me this cocktail smoking box and we’ve had fun smoking all kinds of cocktails. Heck, you can even smoke food in it too! We smoked the cocktail with Applewood smoking chips that are included with the box. It doesn’t take long to infuse that sultry, smokey flavor you crave but for best results, smoke outside! It creates a lot of smoke very fast and as you can see it fills the cocktail glasses with smoke to lightly infuse the flavor. So much smoke is created that if you don’t want to set off your fire alarm in your home, put it underneath you range hood vent or just take it out side! It’s more fun anyway.
For about 30 to 45 sec of smoking is enough to add a subtle smokey flavor to your cocktail. It’s not overpowering, it just enhances the flavors and aromas of your cocktail.
My video on IGTV @winewithlisa documents the process. Please enjoy the following photos and find a perfect recipe for an Old Fashioned at the end.
Cheers!
The smoking process begins immediately after the smoking gun is lit.
Check out how the smoke fills the cocktail glasses
Lots of smoke! Dramatic!
When the door is opened to retrieve the glasses, the smoke comes billowing out! It smells great! This is why you might not want to attempt this in your home, just sayn.
