I bet for a lot of us Sauvignon Blanc has become that perfect go-to wine for dinner, cheese pairings or gatherings with friends. Do you buy the same one every time?
When you are in the mood, don’t just stop at the stacks of wines at the front of the store, take a few moments to browse through the shelves and find LE GRAND BALLON 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley in France.
Sauvignon Blanc wines are produced in many areas of the world, including California, New Zealand and Chile to name a few. But its origin is from the Bordeaux region of France and is also grown in other areas of France such as the Loire Valley. If you haven’t had one that has been produced from this area of France, you are in for a real treat.
Wines made from this grape have distinctive flavors and characteristics such as grapefruit, lime and lemon acidity and flavors which make them very popular due to its versatility with foods.

LOCATION-LOCATION-DISTICTIVE FLAVOR
This wine produced from soils in this area are rich in minerals from thousands of years of shells from marine life and ancient volcanoes resulting in zesty acidity, distinctive minerality, herbaceous or grassiness and delightful fresh lemon and lime flavors.
I was pleasantly surprised by the crispness and freshness of this wine. It is dry yet fruity and had a delicate floral aroma and flavor. I am a huge fan of terroir-driven wines and this expresses the Loire Valley area of France very well.
Saturday evening dinner was inspired by this wine. I prepared Roasted Lemon Chicken with olive tapenade, fresh asparagus with butter and FLEUR de SEL (SEA SALT FROM FRANCE) and an arugula salad with apples and shaved parmesan.
The lemon and lime flavors complemented the juicy, tangy Roasted Lemon Chicken perfectly. Asparagus is one of the traditional vegetables that pairs well with Sauvignon Blanc wines.
I couldn’t resist a sprinkling of fresh, crunchy FLEUR de Sel with butter to accompany the vegetables further complementing the minerality of the wine. And, the fresh, intense bite of arugula with slices of sweet and tart apple pulled it all together.
BON APPETIT YA’LL!!!!!!
