I Won a Texas Hill Country Summer Getaway Weekend Courtesy of The Botanist Islay Dry Gin

I am a winner

The Botanist Islay Dry Gin and The Getaway House Modern Cabin Rentals hosted a weekend getaway contest for several lucky winners across the country and I was one of the winners!

Tucked away a couple of miles outside of the artsy town of Wimberley, Texas  is a very spacious, sprawling piece of land that beckons you to sit down and relax a while under the big Texas sky. For those of us that need to get away for a few days, The Getaway House cabins will entice you to unplug and recharge from all of the craziness and chaos that tends to be around us for one reason or another in our daily lives.

It’s just far enough away that you feel like you are hundreds of miles from your responsibilities but close enough to civilization that you can easily grab your groceries, a few bags of ice and a bottle of gin.

I am a lover of gin

Perhaps it was just luck or they understood my longtime passion for quality gin and well-made Gin & Tonics but they must have liked my answer to the question about why I liked gin. They chose me to experience a blissful two-night stay in a very comfortable tiny home under the stars in the Texas sky. Our cabin was set back off the road surrounded by a nest of Live Oaks and a large window next to the bed to view the nature that surrounded our cabin.

Who doesn’t love swag?

Along with a bottle of The Botanist Gin, we received a lovely basket of swag with Gin and Tonic glasses and everything to stir up a quality cocktail

Why Botanist Dry Gin is my favorite

Twenty-two botanical are responsibly foraged by environmentally sensitive professionals to create a dry gin that is the reflection of their remote Scottish Island, Island of Islay.  Botanist Dry Gin has always been my top pick for making all my gin cocktails and now I know why. The crisp clean flavors and the harmonious blending of botanicals from this remote island are like no other. The flavors are in balance and complement each other and the tonic that it is paired with to make a very refreshing and satisfying cocktail.

I love a well-made martini and Spanish G & T’s are my spirit animal

Although G & T’s are my go-to cocktail, on days when I am feeling extra creative, I’ll shake up my favorite dry Martini with The Botanist throwing in a few briny olives to finish it off. When I am really motivated to create a mood, I make my famous Spanish Gin and Tonics paired with herbs and spices to further enhance to flavors of the gin’s botanicals.

On Saturday afternoon, all of the winners met up with Jones Long, the Portfolio Ambassador at her cabin to sip on the most awesome do-it-yourself Gin and Tonic Bar while we mingled. Jones talked to us about The Botanist Gin and then we all made new friends with each other. Gin lovers do that. The bar featured fresh blackberries, grapefruit, lemon and orange zest as well as fresh herbs such as thyme and basil to make the cocktails even more refreshing. Freshly sliced prickly pears were the perfect addition to add a Texas flare.

After an afternoon of sipping on The Botanist Dry Islay Gin, it was then time to head back to our cabin and grill steaks and whip up a salad while we sipped on more G & T’s-of course.

Check out the photos below for more of our experiences in the wilderness. Glamping is fun!

Chairs surround the grill and fire pit for steaks and s’mores that will be made later
