Two New Jordan Wine Releases Highlighting The Russian River and Alexander Valley’s Wine Regions

Two New Releases

In the midst of California wildfires and the crazy ride we’ve all been on for the past (plus) year, there is something finally to smile about.  Jordan Winery’s new releases debuted on August 1st. And, believe me, these are wine jewels of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay world. Jordan has always been my go-to wines for just sipping or pairing with special meals and now I have something double to smile about.

I received samples of both and thoroughly enjoyed sipping these on a hot end of summer afternoon and as a bonus, enjoyed the Winemaker’s Favorite Cheese Pairings via iGourmet especially selected to pair exquisitely with these two wines.

Wine and Cheese Pairings

Our Friday night dinner included this awesome wine and cheese pairing with the two Jordan releases. Included on the board is smoked

Cheese and Charcuterie Board: I highly recommend this awesome selection of cheese! You can purchase these cheeses through Jordan Winery at this link.

*Central Coast Creamery Ewenique – Central Coast -sheep’s milk   This sheep’s milk cheese features a smooth, delicate texture. The flavor is earthy and sweet, with a savory, rich finish, allowing it to pair with both older and younger cabernet sauvignon vintages.

*Cypress Grove Midnight Moon – Holland  – goat cheese Aged for at least one year, this goat cheese has buttery flavors upfront with a long, caramel finish. As the cheese ages, protein crystals form, lending a slight crunch to the smooth cheese.

*Compte AOP Reserve 12 Month – France – cow’s milk Comté, a cow’s milk cheese, is known for its earthy, herbaceous and nutty flavors. The flavors create a seamless pairing with mature cabernet sauvignons, while the creamy texture complements younger vintages.

*Cabit Clothbound Cheddar – Vermont – cow’s milk

This Vermont cow’s milk cheese has the characteristic texture of an English-style cheddar with sweet caramel and milky flavors that set it apart from other bandaged cheddars. The flavor profile combines sweet, savory, nutty and tangy notes.

About the wines!

2019 Jordan Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 100% Chardonnay

Taste the 40th anniversary vintage of Jordan Chardonnay. Here is an elegant chardonnay that you can feel good about from cork to glass. Not only is this a spectacular example of The Russian River’s finest chardonnay, it’s their first wine sealed with an alternative closure, Origine by Diam. A cork closure known as Origine by Diam® incorporates a beeswax emulsion and a binder composed of 100% vegetable polyols. “Innovation brings us ever closer to nature.” Click on the highlighted link and read more about Diam Bouchage’s major technological breakthrough: a closure that reconciles science and nature.

Gently pressed at night to extract freshness and acidity then six weeks of sur-lie aging (in both stainless steel and French barrel) and bâttonage to bring a touch of creaminess to the mid-palate is just the beginning of what gives this truly classic French style chardonnay it’s freshness of fruit and dancing-on-the-tongue minerality. It is truly a dream Chardonnay for all of the Chardonnay lovers out there. First, inhale the aromas of white flowers and then sip the flavors of crisp apples, fresh creamy and tart lemon curd, juicy pear and feel the tingle on the tongue of lemon and citrus zest. Your mouth will actually water for more! This Chardonnay is one that I love so much just for sipping or pairing with my favorite meals such as lightly seasoned fish such as salmon, creamy pastas and crisp summer salads. This lively wine will not overpower your meals flavors and is a perfect accompaniment with a cheese and charcuterie board.

2017 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec

82% Alexander Valley, 17% Mendocino County, 1% Dry Creek Valley

There is a lot going on in this gorgeous 2017 vintage of  Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon. Amidst such tragedies a world class Cabernet was born. It was definitely a labor of love, blood, sweat and tears- so to speak. On October 8th, two members of our winemaking team lost their homes to the Tubbs Fire, wildfires started throughout Napa, Sonoma and Santa Rosa.Thankfully, the grapes were already fermenting in stainless steel tanks before the firestorm began, our wines were not affected by the smoke or flames.

Jordan has always been a world class maker of  Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet Sauvignon and this one is no exception.

Ripe blackberries, dark red cherries, tangy raspberries will fill your senses with this gorgeous red wine. It’s silky texture with hints of savory herbs, vanilla and sweet tobacco is a Cabernet Sauvignon lovers dream. French oak barrels offer up there sturdy spice notes and contribute to the long lingering finish.

Some of my favorite roasted and smoked meats such as lamb, brisket and double cut pork chops beg for this Cabernet pairing! Along with roasted vegetables, don’t forget to enjoy this wine with a cheese and charcuterie board with cheeses especially selected to pair with all of these dimensions of flavors.

I am providing the links to purchase these fabulous wines and cheeses!
